KHS students design, build large display for City of Christmas

The Keokuk High School Industrial Technology Club students recently completed welding a more than seven foot wide K with an interchangeable wooden Santa hat to be on display in the City of Christmas at Rand Park in Keokuk. The K went on display on Dec. 18.

When the students were asked by Keokuk Community School District administrators if they could work on a display, the group immediately agreed and completed the large K in about two weeks. The K was welded together by using a template sketched by the students from a K decal in the KHS hallway and the interchangeable wood portion that will change for each season, which is currently a Santa hat, was designed and built by woodshop students. The student welders are advised by Katie Geltz and the woodshop students are advised by Adam Radar.

Manic Illusions Customz of Keokuk generously powder coated the K and the Keokuk City of Christmas allowed the display to be added after the opening.

The K is on display midway through the City of Christmas near the shelter houses.
