Empowering Families honors three district staff members as Child Champions

Empowering Families in Lee County, Iowa, honored three Keokuk Community School District staff members this week as Child Champions.

In the district, Kelsey Barclift, a guidance counselor at the Keokuk Middle School, Matt McGhghy, a teacher and coach at the Keokuk High School, and Kim Wessel a teacher from Hawthorne Elementary.

“As I always say, everything is about relationships … connecting with humans and treating people the right way,” McGhghy said. “As you all continue to grow older, foster good relationships and continue to give back to the community.”

Nominations for Child Champions were submitted by local families and the award was to recognize those who go “above and beyond” for the kids in Lee County, according to the presenter Breanna Kramer, a Community Outreach and Development Project Coordinator for the Lee County Health Department.
