The Keokuk High School Drama Club will present a student production of “Rise of Robin Hood” at 7 p.m. on April 25 and 26 on stage at the historic Grand Theater. This is the first student drama production in quite some time at KHS and will feature about 25 cast members.
The play is “heartwarming and traditional, and it brings the legendary tale of Robin Hood to life with a talented cast of KHS students,” Andrea Mott, KHS Drama Club advisor, said. “For some students, this is their first time on stage—but you’d never know it!”
The students have brought the characters to life, while mastering memorization, working on entrances, exits, blocking, spacing and on-stage interactions. Behind the scenes, students helped create the set, learned how to use stage makeup and create hairstyles. Other KHS students are also helping with the production, Adam Rader’s woodshop students are building a rotating set piece that will be used during the show and some of Matt McGhghy’s students are participating as set movers. There are a total of 26 behind the scenes student workers.
All of this hard work has made “this production one you won’t want to miss,” Mott added.
KHS hopes the community will join them for an evening of adventure, heroism and heartfelt performances as “we journey into Sherwood Forest!” Admission is free and free will donations will be accepted at the door.
