KHS seniors perform at Iowa All-State Music Festival

Keokuk High School seniors Carter Killoren and Ethan Totten had “outstanding performances” at the prestigious 79th IHSMA All-State Music Festival on Nov. 22 in the Hilton Coliseum at Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa.

“Carter Killoren and Ethan Totten have attained the highest individual honor available to Iowa high school musicians,” Jason Woodley, KHS director of vocal music, said. Both students “were selected for this prestigious honor through a highly competitive audition process.”

Originally, there were 4,196 Iowa high school musicians that represented 269 high schools that auditioned at six different cities on Oct. 25 and 601 students were selected that represented 150 Iowa high schools to perform in the festival, according to the program.

Iowa PBS recorded the concert and it is planned to be broadcast over Thanksgiving weekend, dates and times will be available at iowapbs.org

The Iowa All-State Music Festival is presented under the Iowa High School Music Association (IHSMA) and the Iowa Music Educators Association (IMEA). Killoren’s parents are Nicki and Eric Dochterman and Totten’s parents are Julie and Matthew Totten.

This year All-State Band was under the direction of Dr. Scott Lubaroff of the University of Central Florida in Orlando, Florida, and the All-State Choir was directed by Dr. Nicole Lamartine of Central Washington University in Ellensburg.
