KMS math teams take first place at Central Lee Math Bee

Keokuk Middle school math students competed in the Central Lee Math Bee and the eighth and seventh grade teams both took first place. Also, eighth grade student Alice Benedict took second place and seventh grade student JJ Stevens took third place, both in the individual competitions by grade. 

The eighth grade team that took first place included Sam Higbie, Bryar Hayner, Jackson Bair and Alice Benedict. The seventh grade team that took first place included JJ Stevens, Londyn Olsen, Blessing Takorbisong and Peyson Reed. The eighth grade overall team earned second place and included James Morgan, Avery Totten, Sam Higbie, Jackson Bair, Bryar Hayner, Ashton Droege, Alice Benedict and Carter Nye. The team was advised by eighth grade math instructor Ben James. The seventh grade overall team won third place and included John Morris, Blessing Takorbisong, Ezza Matlick, Londyn Olsen, Lydia Bailey, JJ Stevens, Blaze Barnes and Peyson Reed. The team was advised by seventh grade math instructor Melissa Palmer. The sixth grade overall team included Josh Higbie, Patrick Takorbisong, Avery Bogert, Kinley Eaton, Rilyn Taylor, Bella Schneider and Bryn Jinkins. The team was advised by sixth grade math instructor Megan Calfee.

The students competed in five individual rounds plus one team round. The math bee was held on May 13.
