KMS students presented and competed in Keokuk Science Fair

Keokuk Middle School students showcased their science research projects to the public and judges in the KMS library on Feb. 7.

The Best Board Awards go to Harper Wesely, Blessing Takorbisong and Kyan Campbell. The Photography Award went to Tuff Leggett and Harper Wesely and the Most Original Award went to team Bryer Merydith and Owen Maerz. The Lee County Soil and Water Conservation Award went to Jordan Sturm, Tuff Leggett, team Peyson Reed and Whitley Page, Kyan Campbell, and team Olivia Cochenour and Elizabeth Cook. Inspiring Excellence Award went to Jordan Sturm, Gunnar Glover, team Maddy Flickinger and Avery Totten, Bryson Reichman, team Wilhelm Mossengren and JJ Stevens. Physical Science Placings: First place is Blessing Takorbisong, second place is Kyan Campbell, third place is Bryson Reichman, and fourth place is team Wilhelm Mossengren and JJ Stevens. Biological Science Placings: First place is team Jordyn Combs and Sakshi Patel, second place is Harper Wesely, third place is team Peyson Reed and Whitley Page, and fourth place is team Lydia Bailey and Londyn Olsen.

This was the first fair that students participated in as they continue to prepare for the upcoming competitive science fair season.

Both events will be structured the same, so the KHS Science Fair will also have judging commence from 4-5:30 p.m. on Feb. 19, then the event will open to the public at 5:30-6 p.m. and awards will be announced at 6-6:15 p.m. Following will be a brief parent meeting.

The KMS and KHS students will also participate in these additional science competitions, including:

  • Culver-Stockton Science Fair (KMS and KHS) on Feb. 22 in Canton, Missouri
  • SE Iowa Fair (KMS and KHS) on Mar. 6, in Burlington, Iowa
  • Eastern (Regional) (KMS and KHS) on Mar. 15 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa
  • State (KMS and KHS) on March 26-28 in Ames, Iowa
