Keokuk’s Addalyn Worster holds the state record and is the previous state champion in both paraswimming events that she qualified to compete in this Friday, Nov. 14 at the 2025 IGHSAU State Swimming and Diving meet (Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union) as it moves to the a bigger venue at the University of Iowa in Iowa City.
“This final state meet is the culmination of so many years of hard work, overcoming health obstacles, dedication and passion,” Andrea Worser, KHS Girls Swim head coach and Addalyn’s mother, said. “Just seeing how much she has grown as a swimmer and a young lady the last three years has been truly special … it’s hard to put into words how proud I am of Addalyn.”
The KHS Girls Swim team captain and senior punched her ticket to state for the fourth year in a row on Nov. 8 at the Marshalltown Regional Swimming Meet where she set a personal record in the 200Y Freestyle with a time of 2:22.17 and also qualified in the 100Y Freestyle with 1:08.04. Worster has won the state championship for and holds the state record for four of the five state paraswimming events, according to IGHSAU, including:
- 50Y Freestyle Para State Champion in 2023 and the State Record of 30.99 on Nov. 8, 2023
- 200Y Freestyle Para State Champion in 2022 and the State Record of 2:23.12 on Nov. 8, 2022
- 100Y Freestyle Para State Champion in 2022 and 2024 and the State Record of 1:05.89 on Nov. 9, 2022
- 100Y Backstroke Para State Champion in 2023 and 2024 and the State Record of 1:09.09 on Nov. 14, 2023
IGHSAU allows a state qualifier to compete in a maximum of two paraswimming events annually and Worster has competed and placed first in her two events each year since her freshmen year in 2022 and as a senior she will complete her high school career on Friday.
“She has been to state the last three years, but this year she will be competing in a bigger venue with the switch to Iowa City, and this will be her last splash,” Andrea added. “I’m excited for the bigger venue and to be facing new competition.”
Swimming runs in the family as Addalyn’s mother, Andrea Worster, is her swim coach and her older brother Brendan Worster and Addalyn simultaneously qualified for state swim as Chiefs in 2023 and 2024. Brendan signed on to swim at the collegiate level and is now a sophomore at Quincy University and he has already made it on the QU record board.
The 2025 IGHSAU State Swimming and Diving meet will be held Nov. 13-14 in the University of Iowa Recreation and Wellness Center in Iowa City, Iowa. Addalyn will swim in the State Swimming Meet Finals which start at noon on Nov. 14. The meet will be broadcast live by the IGHSAU Digital Network at watchighsau.com.
