Senior recruited via Instagram to sign as competitive cheer collegiate athlete

When asked if Harlie Hill auditioned to be recruited to become a collegiate athlete in competitive cheer, the Keokuk High School senior said no, “I was recruited from my Instagram account that is dedicated to cheerleading.”

Hill signed a letter of intent earlier this week to compete in the NAIA sanctioned sport of competitive cheer for Waldorf University in Forest City, Iowa, in the Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) that includes 12 private colleges from Iowa, Nebraska and South Dakota. She will also cheer for football and basketball for the Waldorf Warriors.

“I’m excited and nervous,” Hill said. “From experiencing new things and going out on my own.”

Hill has cheered for four years on the fall and winter squads for football, basketball and wrestling at KHS with coaches Nicole Hendrickson and Maddie Marlin. She plans to major in elementary education at Waldorf.
