The Keokuk Police Department sent over two judges for the GW turkey coloring contest and six winners were chosen. In November the F.A.C.E (Family and Community Engagement) Committee at GW sent a paper turkey home to all kindergarten and first grade students as an activity for families to decorate together.
“We are always looking for ways to work with families and include them in their child’s educational journey,” Meghan Davis, GW principal, said. “The students love talking about the projects and who helped them. These projects create family conversations and memories.”
More than 100 families participated this month and six winners were chosen, which included three from each grade level. KPD Chief Zeth Baum and Assistant Chief Andrew Whitaker chose the winners and Hy-Vee donated pumpkin pies as a prize.
“We are so thankful for those in the community that help out with our projects,” Heather Sisk, KCSD Family Liaison for kindergarten through fifth grade families, said. “Pies will go home next week with the six winners.”
Creating monthly opportunities for families to work together on projects is an initiative this school year at GW, which is being led by the F.A.C.E. committee. In December students and their parents will be invited to GW for holiday stories and to decorate a holiday cookie. More info to come.
