Keokuk Middle School students, staff and the community are once again raising funds for the annual Angel Tree Project. Last year students exceeded expectations and raised $2,497.55 and were able to buy presents for 48 local children in need with the Salvation Army’s guidance.
KMS staff have said that the Angel Tree Project is a great way for students to give back and learn empathy for others during the holidays. The Salvation Army helps students understand the importance of the project and provides guidance on how to make the most of the funds used to purchase the gifts based on each child’s wishlist.
To raise the funds, students and staff are offered incentives and encouraged to bring a dollar to get to wear a hat, eat donuts and have tech time, as well as send candy cane grams to fellow students. This year KMS staff will continue the new Pie In The Face competition, where students and staff are able to vote for one of the principals to take a Pie In The Face by giving a dollar. On Dec. 9, around 20 students will be nominated/selected by KMS staff members to assist in shopping for the gifts.
