Keokuk High School students can once again participate in the Keokuk Association for Rights & Equality (K.A.R.E.) Heritage Writing contest as part of the Native American Heritage Month this November.
This contest started Nov. 2 and runs through Nov. 23. K.A.R.E. has selected five dynamic Native Americans of varying notoriety as writing subjects for students enrolled in ninth through twelfth grades at KHS to choose from to create an original research paper written. As an added incentive, students who follow and/or exceed the contest criteria may be eligible to win a cash prize and have their photo and their teacher’s name featured in the Daily Gate City newspaper, pending student and parent approval.
SUBMIT: Research paper entries must be emailed to the K.A.R.E. keokukkaressays@gmail.com by 3 p.m. on Nov. 23, 2026. A confirmation email will be sent to each student submitting a paper/report once the report has been received. Late submissions will not be accepted. The K.A.R.E. Education Committee will then review each submission according to our guidelines and rubric to choose deserving winners. Late submissions will NOT be accepted.
Note: No Artificial Intelligence (AI) permitted and students must follow the listed essay criteria.
