Updates

We look forward to upgrading our facilities most in need of updates.
PHASE II: Calvert Stadium & Torrence Preschool
Originally slated to begin in late 2024, the District pushed back the start date of phase two in an effort to provide more information to the school community and engage in comprehensive planning based upon overall district needs.
- CALVERT STADIUM | Originally constructed in the 1960s, the 12-month renovation plan of the stadium includes:
- – Updates to the stadium seating with new railings.
- – An expanded building for a new entrance off of Middle Road.
- – A newly constructed press box and ticket booth, as well as a separate building for the concession stand.
- – Also, the bathrooms would be renovated and expanded and the bathrooms and entrance would be ADA accessible.
- TORRENCE PRESCHOOL | The development of a new preschool building on north 17th Street, previously home to a community health clinic, and purchased by the school district will replace the district’s oldest building.
- – Torrence has become increasingly expensive to maintain.
- – Also, the building has use restrictions and is limited to having students only on the first floor.
PHASE I | The newly renovated track, LED lights and the turf field were part of phase one improvements to facilities at KCSD, which also saw a renovation of the tennis courts.
- – Phase one of the plan was approved by the Keokuk School Board in September 2023.
- – Klingner and Associates PC and Byrne & Jones Construction completed the first phase of the project in Fall 2024.
- – An Athletic Facility Public Hearing and Financing Public Hearing were held in September 2023 to approve the use of the school infrastructure sales, services and use tax revenues for the proposed athletic facility infrastructure project, that would not exceed $4,000,000 in cost.
- – The use of SAVE Funds for phase one did not increase the District’s tax rate.
NOTE | The need for renovations were identified by the school community as a priority from a survey conducted in the spring of 2023.

The proposed projects will "provide better experiences for our students, families, and the community that support us in our efforts to make KCSD the best school district in Lee County.”
