The Keokuk High School Drama Club proudly presents the Spring musical, “The Addams Family School Edition,” with opening night at 7 p.m. on Friday, April 24.
“Audiences can expect laughter, memorable music and a highly entertaining performance,” Andrea Mott, KHS Drama Club advisor, said. “We invite the community to step away from their usual routine and enjoy an evening of live theater.”
The KHS Drama Club has recently evolved from a traditional meeting-based student organization to a performance-driven program focused on stage opportunities for students.
“Theater students thrive when they are actively creating, performing, and collaborating, and this shift has allowed our program to grow in both size and quality,” Mott explained. “And producing a show of this size requires dedication, teamwork and a strong work ethic.”
There are more than 40 KHS students involved in the production from actors to stage crew in the full-scale production. Attendance and commitment were expected for all students involved “and the results speak for themselves when the curtain rises.”
In addition to raising $2,400 during the club’s winter fundraiser, the group received $3,600 in donations from local businesses and community members.
“This year, we have been especially fortunate to receive incredible community support,” Mott said. “These sponsors and donors will be recognized in the program for our spring production.”
The production team includes community members:
- Sarah Vigen, set director
- Reva Terry, vocal director
- Shannon Tackes, producer
- Hannah Hagmeier, hair/makeup director
- Alyssa Lawson, lighting director
- Nathan Fox, sound
- Andrea Mott, music direction
The cast and crew of students includes KHS seniors Liam Martin as Gomez, Darby Tackes as Wednesday, Ayden Johnson as Lurch, Addylan Worster as grandma, Ileanna Ball as the Ghost Bride Ancestor, and Halli Tibbits as the Flapper Ancestor.
“When you see the show, you will understand just how hard these students have been working,” Mott added.
Performance Dates include:
- 7 p.m., Friday, April 24
- 7 p.m., Saturday, April 25
- 2 p.m., Sunday, April 26
Admission is free with a free-will donation accepted and all performances will be held at the Grand Theatre, 26 N 6th Street in Keokuk. Doors will open 45 minutes prior to showtime.
The season for the KHS Drama Club began in the Fall with a Dessert Theatre Fundraiser that featured student-led skits, live music and of course, desserts. Students began preparing in September and performed in November. In January, the club held a winter fundraiser during preparation for auditions and production work for the spring musical.
