The public is invited to the 2026 Solo and Ensemble Festival on Feb. 5 at KMS, which will feature seventh and eighth grade Concert Band members. Most of the 28 events will be performed from 4:30-6:30 p.m., however the earliest event will be the Percussion Ensemble at 3:40 p.m., which will be held in the KMS Band Room.

KMS Band director Krystal Bottorff and KHS Band director Jimmy Pelini have coordinated the festival. The accompanists for the evening are Carolyn Brown and Sarah Vigen and the judges are Woodie Brassil, Emily Otte and Karen Weirather. The events will receive ratings of either a one, Superior; a two, Excellent; or a three, Good. Some events may receive a “one plus” rating which also will receive a star on the Wall of Fame. Any Outstanding Performance Awards will be given at the end of the evening to the most outstanding events from each performance room.
Bottorff would like to thank the many parents, community members, KMS staff members and students who are helping with various jobs to make the event possible. Also essential to the success of the event, Bottorff further explained, are the judges, accompanists and KMS administrators, Jim Short and Amanda Mason. Additionally, the staff and students would like to send out a special thank you to the district custodial staff for the extra effort put in for this event.
Admission is free and the public is welcome to attend.
